I won't sit here and lie and say that I was rooting for the New England Patriots to beat the New York Giants last night. I'm a Jets fan. By our very nature, we despise everything about the Patriots. From pretty boy Tom Brady to the devil himself, Bill Belichick. I wanted the Giants to win badly, just to knock that pompous look off of Belichick's face. Unfortunately, fate would have the night go a different way.
For most of the game, it looked as though the Giants could pull it off, leading by 12 points in the third quarter. But we all had seen this story before. Very few people logically thought that the Giants would be able to hold off the beast that is the Patriots.
So what happens? Tom Brady calmly as ever leads his team back and enters the history books as the only team to go 16-0 in a season. The 1972 Dolphins went perfect, but the season had only been 14 games at the time.
The night held a lot more history to it then simply the 16-0 mark. After the 2nd touchdown catch by Randy Moss, both Tom Brady and Moss had broken single season records held by two amazing players. Brady's 50th touchdown pass moved him ahead of Peyton Manning's 49 touchdowns in a season from several years ago. Randy Moss eclipsed the great Jerry Rice's 22 touchdown catches after having caught his 23rd. To top that off, the Patriots as a team broke the record for most points scored in a season, passing the 1998 Minnesota Vikings.
All in all, it's been a remarkable season for the New England Patriots. As much as I hate the team and the organization, I'll tip my cap to the incredible accomplishment they have achieved.
