It has been fours years since Britney last released a studio album. Anxious fans and merely curious critics awaited the highly anticipated album Blackout, which was released today. As a result of the album being leaked onto the Internet, the album’s release date was pushed forward. The release of Blackout marks a climax of rumours, allegations and controversial stunts, which we have best come to know as Britney’s prerogative.

At the brink of what was seen by some as Britney’s final breakdown - after the loss of custody of her kids to ex-husband K-Fed - one question remained synonymous, “Will Britney make a comeback?”

It didn’t seem as though Britney’s intention was to justify her actions or in fact, “make a comeback” when she performed her hit single Gimme More at the VMA’s earlier this year.

On her new album, Britney tells her fans, “It’s been a while. I know I shouldn’t have kept you waiting, but now I’m here.” It is clear that Britney has done it again, and is here to stay! Blackout is by no means an attempt to rationalize Britney’s current lifestyle, but is an artifact of what Britney essentially is - a performer.

However, Britney deemed it necessary to utilize Blackout as a form of artistic expression, giving the negative tabloids and paparazzi a Piece Of Me, the second track.

The lyrics in Track 3 suggest that K-Fed is not a result of Britney’s bad taste in men, but what she really looks for in a guy: “Confidence is a must; cockiness is a plus; edginess is a rush; edges I like ‘em rough. A man with a Midas touch. Intoxicate me, I’m a lush…”

Break The Ice is a great dance track, and we could definitely picture Britney breaking out in one of her trademark dance routines.

There is definitely some hip-hop and R&B influence on this new album on tracks such as Ooh Ooh Baby, as well as fantastic dance tracks, which are sure to be pumping in clubs.

FYI, for those wanting a taste of Britney's complete album, a simple search in the music section on myspace will actually result in every single track on her album. It's been up long before the release.

The best artists have been successful over the long term because they are constantly redefining themselves - take Madonna, for instance. How many different sounds has she come out with to keep herself fresh and interesting to her listeners? The truth is, Britney's album is doing okay, but it's time to move on - with two kids, an alleged drug problem and family issues plaguing her in the media, we the listeners are having more trouble believing in what she's selling us. Dare I say it's time for her and her career to grow up? I wish her all the best ... and hope she can pull through.

It's funny to think about Britney with two kids now (well sort of hers), definitely a woman now, if not an "older" woman with lots of problems and yet I wonder if this album really mirrors that, i'll have to find out!
