Why The Fascination With Britney Spears And Dysfunctional Pop-Culture Icons?

Are there not more important stories in the world than Britney Spears and the likes of like pop-stars that don't know how to behave?

There is not a day when we do not hear about some well-known pop star getting into trouble one way or the other. The fact that the media covers this garbage day in and day out seems to indicate that this sells.

In my mind this does not say a lot for those throngs of people who watch or read these stories. Don't those people have a life or anything better to do with it?

What I do not understand is this: One would think, that especially young people who have achieved fame -deservedly or not, based on their talent or lack thereof - should be happy for their accomplishment and be a role-model for their fans and the youth culture in general. Yet when they get into trouble in various ways they send a very wrong signal to society in general, that it is okay to behave that way.

It is not okay to behave that way, it sets a very bad example for our youth and for society in general.
I think people like Britney Spears and like-minded or behaving pop stars either get their act together or get out of the lime-light and make room for those who know how to behave properly, setting a better example for society in general.

I for one am sick and tired to hear in the news almost daily of some public figure misbehaving in one way or another and then getting away with a slap on the wrist.

I too am also tired of all the media attention Britney Spears is getting. I almost feel bad for her.
You, though, are just acting as another source of media. If you are so tired of all the coverage on her, why are you writing about her and the mistakes she makes? She is, after all, human just like you and I.
Like you said, there are more important stories to be talked about.
