The idea that mankind made these life size skulls of crystal is a fascinating concept. '

David Hatcher Childress, known as the real life Indiana Jones to the many fans of his books, has traveled to the ends of the Earth countless times, seeking adventure and the answers to the mysteries of mankind's past. He has recently released the book, “The Crystal Skulls: Astonishing Portals to Man's Past,” which he co-authored with Steven Mahlar. Here's what Childress thinks of crystal skulls, the supernatural and Indiana Jones.

There’s a great deal of fascination with crystal skulls, even going back to the 1800s when the British Museum and the museum in Paris first acquired their crystal skulls.

There are many supernatural stories about crystal skulls, and there is no doubt at all that a number of unusual physical effects happen around these skulls. Even at the British Museum and Smithsonian, people noticed strange effects around them.

Allegedly the British Museum skull would glow, move by itself and would just light up. It was said that the cleaning staff didn’t like to clean around the skull, and they preferred to put a cloth over it while they worked at night. The Mitchell Hedges skull glowed, and people would say there were unusual smells like flowers coming from it.

A number of people who own crystal skulls believe they have psychic conversations with the crystal skulls, and the skulls allegedly tell psychics their names. Stuff like that is typical, but difficult to confirm. Psychic impressions are simply that, impressions, but I’m very open minded on the subject.

Even though some of these skulls may be modern forgeries - these things are over 140 years old – when you have massive crystal like that, carved or not, you’re probably going to get some kind of effect.

Recent studies at the Smithsonian and the British Museum have indicated that there are tool marks on some of these skulls. What they discovered, using really powerful microscopes, were small scratches that were made by a power drill. What they’re saying is that at least some of the crystal skulls were made in relatively modern times, mid to late-1800s.

It’s a little disappointing to find out that some of these crystal skulls may well be more modern than ancient, but there definitely are ancient skulls.

Hmm...have you ever done extensive research on crystal/quartz? I was watching the History Channel a few months ago (or another channel similar to it) where they were discussing Edgar Cayce and what he had to say about crystal and the end of the Atlantis Empire. He said that during that time, all of the earth's energy came from crystals, until one day it became too powerful and it destroyed Atlantis. [Which ironically bears some resemblance in our current need for oil as energy and the current state of our environment.]

If a true crystal artificat could surface, we would be looking at a true Atlantian artifact which would put the date back thousands of years. They had the tools to make something like a crystal skull.

As for the movie...I was highly disappointed that they just had to add aliens into the mix. Stephen Speilberg and his aliens!!!! It would be more believable if he went looking for the Fountain of Youth or King Solomon's Mines or something. But to X-Files Indiana Jones...that's the same as bastardizing my favorite fictional character hero's stories. It was because of Indiana Jones that I became so interested in archaeology, history and anthropology. I'm not adding aliens to my list of interests.

What a way to advertise a movie, with pseudo science. Not as much info about the skulls as about the Indiana Jones movie, which supports the likes of Rush Limbaugh.

I call this type of mixed message article Foo-fer-rah marketing..

I thought there was plenty of info about the skulls, and the Indiana Jones talk didn't really make an appearance until the end... but you're certainly entitled to your opinion, Bud. Either way, I thought this story was way cool. And hey - if they made an Indiana Jones movie based on real life artifacts you've been researching for years, wouldn't you revel in the association? C'mon, have a little fun!

I'm not in a mood for marketing today, Robyn. I understand the piggy backing of a message on another, as you can see. I was just craving more meat about the skulls, which defrays the other end of the spectrum who want more info about the movie.

In my opinion, the movie itself is a low-life, mind-numbing hit of marketing heroin feeding our children's addiction to idiotic fantasy which perpetrates and reinforces their aversion to CRITICAL THINKING.

In every subtle way that they can, the marketer destroys our society in order to make money. There is nothing of scientific, or any other value, in this marketing extravaganza. The world will suffer for the millions of wasted gallons of gasoline hauling Fat-*ssed American children to be mauled by the marketer for this schlock.

Some are thinking life is all about a little innocent fun as they are led from one marketing experience to another valueless encounter. No wonder the ones we really need to contribute to society, the intelligent youth, who are willing to gamble, are drawn away from this stupid boring cr*p and test their skills in the exiting anti society movement called Lawlessness, organized crime. After a childhood of fantasy sh*t like this, the adventurous children will turn to something that is real and exiting: drugs and crime.

That's right, boring garbage like this "innocent" entertainment will eventually drive some of the very best of our young to drugs and alternative life styles. This will leave the morons in charge-like GWB. And then look what happens!

Our youth need real challenges, not idiotic fantasy like this which fleeces them of their parents money and gives back a minute's worth of cheap entertainment.

Other than that on my side, you are entitled to your views also. Have a good one.

Sorry about my verbosity, but I can't seem to leave off unless I've expressed every nuance of my thought.

It is not that i personally am adverse to marketing schlock if I could make money. Understanding the psychological and emotional impact delivered in a marketing message and being creative has given me an ability to market that is PDG.

I'm like the next guy and could easily be lured to use my talents to perpetrate the present madness.

Everyone is motivated by personal greed and success, and willing to shed some ethics for money. No one has offered me the right kind of carrot, yet. Until then it is in the best interest of my reproductive survival strategy to be concerned for your and my grandchildren. If someone gave me millions to work for the marketer, I could provide some really creative stuff, and then my strategy for long term genetic survival would be to leave my grandchildren financially secure.

After all, if the Titanic is sliding under the waves and the band is playing, I would like my offspring to be the last to slide under and suffer. Then I would feed your children marketing heroin too, I guess, if nothing better came up. No one wants to pay me a living telling the truth, so I'll lie, too. That's where the big bucks are; marketing, eh Robyn?
