Valentine’s Day And My Band Of Merry Men!

heart, Valentine's Day

It's that time of year again...and time to find out what the gents think of it.

Have you ever wondered how men really feel about Valentine's Day? I offer you a candid insider's view that will raise your hopes and warm your hearts towards the coming day of LOVE!

I like to regard myself as a Maid Marian type of character gallantly tromping my way through various woodland habitats with my band of Merry Men. The other day as we foraged through the forest and over the highland hills, I asked the gents how they felt about the upcoming day of chivalry and love!

Little John with his tall strapping physique and perfectly shaved head replied to the matter with, “Oh, Crap!” Will Scarlet, the younger and happily married of the three gents, was less upset by my announcement of the upcoming day. He took the contented tone of the married guy, informing me that anniversaries and birthdays are more important in his house. Robin Hood, the token single guy in his mid-thirties, replied with one word: “Agony.”

My own feelings of indifference towards Valentine’s Day have long been solidified by past disappointments, but I was curiously intrigued by the gents’ responses to my queries.

All of them agree that material purchases are not important to women on this day, rather it is time spent together that is most appreciated and valued by their lasses. However, each passionately agrees that every woman in a relationship does want some acknowledgement on this day of love.

They noted that if a man does not pay some sort of homage to his fair lady on Valentine’s Day, pity the poor fool who will suffer her wrath on February 15th! He will be sure to feel a cold shoulder from his woman and will no doubt be forced to sleep on the couch, as she will have decided that the bed is suddenly too small with him in it!

Well, I never got close to a Cadillac, but today in my lunch bag, there was a surprise box of those goofy little heart candies (with the messages on them). It's really the little things, isn't it??

He's a keeper, Shauna! It is indeed the little things that count!

Okay, so now you guys have me thinking about the romantic gestures of my guy...We were on "a break," but considering getting back together. I had moved into my own little bachelor apartment, which had a closet with nothing to hang my clothes on, except for an old pipe. The pipe was actually too big for my hangers to fit on, so my clothes were always falling off.

He took one look at my situation and marched me down to the local hardware store, where he bought a couple bike chains and a piece of wood, using the materials to make me a place to hang my wardrobe. I got back with him the next day, and we're back in love.

He's a "salt-of-the-earth" type, so while he does surprise me with flowers on International Women's Day or other unlikely occasions, most of his gestures are of a practical nature. Underrated, but also the foundation of a solid relationship.

"Salt of the earth is good" . . . does he have any single brothers! ;-) I have one potential for the big day, but it is platonic and I know he will understand if Mr. Right comes waltzing into my life! ;-) Keep me posted! ;-)

Oh, yeah, I can't forget Robin Hood! He too is on the look out for a date for the big day - single ladies, feel free to post a comment and I will pass on your messages to the wayward wanderer! ;-)

Yeah, well I can't compete with Robyn's Cadillac story, but at least I can hang up my skirts. Unfortunately he does not have any single brothers, and even if his brother was single, I'm not sure he's your type. He's a self-described redneck.

Anyway salt of the earth is great, but grand romantic gestures are something my boyfriend will be hearing about tonight...Maybe he can take a few pointers.

I can top the fondue (although that sounds really good too!) - on our first Valentine's Day, my boyfriend (now hubby) rented a Cadillac and surprised me by picking me up in the morning and driving me to university. He walked me from class to class, holding my books, and then took me out to a fantastic candlelight dinner at Crescent Beach. It was a whole-day affair with a little in it for both of us - he got to drive a Cadillac for the day, and I was chauffeured around town like a queen; love was definitely in the air...
