Abortion is a topic that is met with not so nice responses, either being called a sin or an act of murder, but if people would at least give it more of a thought, they will see that in some cases it's more justifiable.

Teen moms are a growing epidemic in the U.S. According to Pregnancy Info.net, the U.S. has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy. Maybe it's due to peer pressure, misuse of birth control, or, unfortunate circumstances ( i.e. rape, incest).

Whatever the case is , young women have to be educated and know that they have options. I know abortion is mostly associated with murder, not giving a child life. However, with some of the new cases of the horrific side of teen pregnancies, some teen moms are taking their child lives into their own hands, killing their children emotionally and physically.

Last summer, I watched a special on the Oprah Winfrey show that featured a young woman named Jessica Coleman. She was serving a five-year sentence for the murder of her own son. She explained that when she found out she was pregnant, she and her boyfriend, at the time, opted to keep it a secret. To prevent anyone from noticing her pregnancy, he used to stand on her stomach and she wouldn't eat as much (and give her unborn child the nutrition it needed) so her stomach wouldn't show.

I know young girls don't want to deal with the guilt of abortion, thinking as if they're killing their child, but in this case, they were doing it initially...they were already using their own form of aborting the baby. Even after she gave birth, she noticed that her son wasn't breathing and may be still born. Too scared to ask her family or call 911, she waited a while to see if her son would start breathing and when she returned and saw he hadn't, she stabbed him with a knife to take his pain away.

That's really sad that that particular couple had to resort to such methods...everyone has made mistakes, whether they're religious or not, people have sex and make babies, planned or unplanned. I have a Christian friend, who well...is very devout, but recently she got pregnant even though she wasn't married yet. I'm sure some are quick to condemn her, even though they will get married and most likely have a loving family.

I strongly feel that abortion is not something you can legislate law for, because in so many cases the circumstances are unique - and moreover, the hammer over the head method of punishing people for doing what humans do, which is make mistakes, is counter-productive. Every person is unique, and this is really about a practical outlook - whether you are pro or against abortion, I think the best outcome will come from being loving and understanding in each situation.

I think so many people have been brainwashed into looking at this issue in one way, but it's grey, the repercussions, the fallout is always on a personal basis, not what someone condemns it to be, look at soldiers in Iraq...they are cheered on as heroes, but on a personal level, they are killing people and enduring great emotional trauma...

I like your article and I agree with you. Having a child should be an act of happiness and not a sentence for life. Kids should come to this world because their parents really want to have them and give them a good life and not because they are forced to now they made a mistake.
