Spoils to the victor, loser buys lunch.

Ever done something that immediately afterward you wish you hadn't. I did, and although I wish that I hadn't evoked a situation, I am glad I did because I learned something about life's principles from the experience.

A… duel?

“Yes a duel and spoils to the victor,” remarked Ramon. He stood and adjusted his coat and belt. Ramon turned raised his eyebrow and smiled, “The loser buys lunch for the winner, fair enough?”

I stood up and extended my hand. Without any mercy for me he squeezed and crushed my hand signaling the acceptance of our bet. I had just agreed to fence a man named Ramon in the park tomorrow morning. He is probably a Zorro with a sword and would find it very pleasing to destroy me by his cultural trade. I am no sword fighter!

This all started in a bar with a friend of mine.

Charles Gibson is a friend I’ve had since high school and we both go to the community college in routine of everyday school life. Everything was normal except it was his idea to go to a new bar in a different part of town called the City Slicker.

A few drinks, darts and a pool game later we were socializing over Buffalo wings when a couple of guys entered the bar and sat in the booth behind me. “Bad to the Bone” by George Thorogood picked up beat in the speakers, so Charles and I started to sing along.

Suddenly I am being prodded on my shoulder, and when I turn to acknowledge it, Ramon spits on the floor and says, “Cut out your terrible singing!” I ignored him. Now I should have just let it go, stopped singing and continued to eat my wings.

I am looking forward to fencing a strange man in a public park. How ridiculous, but what a story it will make when I tell my coworkers about it.
