Do the walls of your cozy hideaway feel like they're closing in
on you? If so, there are a lot of ways to make a small room look
and feel more spacious.
Whether it's choosing the right furniture, or simply the right
color scheme, here's how to expand your living space.
Spacious Decoration Tips
- Get round or oval tables. - They will provide more room for
moving around in; they simply don't take up as much space.
- Choose wallpaper with small patterns. - This will hide any
corners and make the room appear much bigger.
- Hang a landscape picture on the wall. - For best results,
choose scenes that depict distance. It will add instant depth to
the room.
- Paint your furniture the same color as the walls. - The
furniture will blend quite nicely into the background and create
the feeling of more space.
- Use an armless upholstered chair. - They take up less room
and are very comfortable.
Simple and Cheap Ways to Make a Room Spacious and
Chic
There are also easy and inexpensive ways to create a dramatic
look for a room or throughout your home or apartment. The use of
color, lighting, and a few basic accessories will give your place
style. Use:
- a sharply contrasting color scheme - For example, red, white,
and black, or you can use several shades of one color (i.e. an
all-blue room).
- white - An all-white room can be very dramatic.
- lighting - Draw attention to a picture or standout art piece
by placing enough lighting nearby.
- emphasis - The best place to focus on is usually directly
across from the doorway - the first thing you see when you enter.
If it's a wall, add a striking piece of furniture and hang a nice
picture over it.
