There are few rooms as fun to decorate as those for children. Little girls' rooms are particularly enjoyable to create.

To design a room that your little girl will adore for years to come, follow some of these tips and suggestions.

Decorating a Girl's Room -- Think Long-term

Don't just decorate for the little girl she is now - decorate for the young woman she will become. Invest in good quality furniture that will last well into her teenage years. Not only will it save you from having to spend more money on furniture as she gets older, it will help her to appreciate quality from a young age.

When decorating a bedroom for a young girl, remember to keep her interests and hobbies in mind. Does she like fairytales and princesses, sports and athletes, movies and celebrities? Whatever her interests, keep them in mind when decorating the bedroom. Include the things she loves in her own personal space.

While theme rooms are fun and cute, keep in mind that they will have to be redone as the little girl grows up and her interests change. Instead of decorating a whole room in one theme, it is far more cost-effective to keep large and expensive items theme-free, and use smaller, less expensive items to reflect her current interests and passions.

Colors, Fabrics and Storage for Girls

Little girls love plush and pretty colors and fabrics, so when decorating a room for a little girl, use soft and sumptuous fabrics in the colors she loves. Let her have a say in the colors and fabrics that will be in her room. After all, she'll be the one living there. It's important for her to feel comfortable and at home. While decisions about expensive items like rugs should probably be left up to the grown-ups, let her have a say in items like curtains, bedding and accent pillows.

Make sure there is plenty of storage. Little girls tend to have a lot of stuff: from dress-up clothes, to books and toys, to artwork and awards. Create designated areas where she can keep all these items. Baskets and bins are perfect. Also, a bulletin board covered in a pretty fabric that matches the room is terrific to hang on the wall. There she can put pictures, schoolwork and pieces of art she has created. It will give the room a very personal touch.

The most important thing to remember when decorating a room for a little girl is to make sure that it suits the personality of the youngster residing in it. Whether she's a girly girl, a tomboy or somewhere in between, let her personality shine through in her own personal space.
