Last week the House passed the unprecedented bailout plan in hopes of restoring some stability to the ailing American economy. The vote for the newly amended bill passed with a 263 to 171 vote. This was due to strong lobbying on the part of the White House and other supporters of the bill, and was a response to the outrage that boiled over from the failed bill earlier this week that fell apart due to partisan fighting.
This will allow the Treasury Secretary to purchase up to $700 billion in troubled assets in a bid to kick-start the economy and ease crisis. Monday's failed bill caused the Down to drop 700 points.
Clearly, not everyone is happy about the bailout being passed. The American leaders have sold out says Frankly Speaking:
- Well, so much for that. For a few days I actually had faith in our representatives. For a while it looked like they actually listened to the majority of Americans who didn't want the bailout. But it looks like in the end, they sold their souls to the rich crooks who got us into this mess by lying, cheating, deceiving and swindling the American people. They never cared about what we wanted, they just wanted to bide more time to scare everyone into thinking Doomsday is neigh, so they could roll more pet projects into the bill. So now, they're gonna get a free pass, at our expense. You know, the same people they screwed over.
