The horrific case of Josef Fritzl is unbelievable. Terrible things happen all around the world, but it's crazy that in two years two similar stories happened in my country. I was really shocked when I heard about it on the television, but I guess I was not the only one.

At the moment I'm speechless, but I'm happy that this woman and her kids are free again.

I don't think that it's important what I think; much more important is that this family now gets the peace they need to understand what happened the last 72 hours and 24 years...I think that they need time to realize that they are free now.

My first thought was, 'How did this woman feel when she saw the case of Natascha Kampusch on TV two years ago?' The Austrian teenager was held captive in Vienna for eight years, and herself escaped in 2006. It gives me goosebumps.

You can imagine that the media is chasing everyone in Austria who has any contact or a relation to this family, but people are now more sensitive when it comes to the media because of the similar case two years ago; people here can understand that this family needs privacy.

The newspapers are still full with it. Today on the radio I heard that Natascha Kampusch was saying that she would like to get in touch with the family if they want that as well.

For me it is important that the media doesn't show my country as a place which is raising strange criminals. Other countries have also crazy similar cases. For example, Russia had a similar case just after the story of Natascha broke.

Surely the Austrian people are shocked, but I would say that it is a coincidence that this happened here twice; it has nothing to do with a special criminal energy or special socialism here.

I just talked about it with my best friend - she is shocked as well. The more days this family is in freedom, the more details you get.

People are strange. What possesses someone to commit such crimes against another person? Especially their own child???

I don't think anyone will ever understand.
