Is Sex Fun And Necessary? Isn't Prostitution A Fact Of Life?

American flag, freedom

What does freedom in America mean if a man can't pay a few grand for some fun?

The recent demonization of "john" Eliot Spitzer makes me wonder, what if Robert Pickton was just as easily accused and crucified by the media? Then again, it makes me feel more confident that prostitution shouldn't be a crime.

Eliot Spitzer is on the chopping block for paying thousands and thousands of dollars to be with a woman. This is because he's a high-level, effective Democrat and that hasn't made him friends in the white-collar crime world of right-wing, fundamentalist Republicans.

Compare his crime to the crimes of Robert Pickton, who was charged in the murder of six prostitutes and implicated in the disappearance of over 60 women. While taxpayers front millions to accuse this man of the murder of sex workers in the dirty streets of the Downtown Eastside, Eliot is blamed by media and the people they interview for his "atrocity" even though there was no trial to determine his guilt or culpability.

Mainstream media is not asking good questions when Eliot's detractors call him "morally degenerate."

Even before Spitzer is convicted of a crime, he is being demonized by the American press and broadcast industry. And the coverage ain't much better up here in Canada either.

In the States, its okay for the media to say anything before a conviction. Here in Charter-of-Rights-and-Freedoms Canada, it's not. If you're reading this article, you probably know that already.

But here in Canada, just like in the States, prostitution is not legal in most places.

High-end escort services are about as legal as you can get for sex as a commodity.

And on the other end of the spectrum, let's call it low-end prostitution, sex as a commodity is relegated to dark alleys and bloody knees.

Pretend my boyfriend purchased sex from another woman... would that be a reason to DESTROY the CAREER of my boyfriend?? I actually would hope not. While I would be baffled and hurt, I don't think I would want to see his ENTIRE CAREER go down the tubes...
