It is overwhelmingly likely at this point that the next President of the United States will be either John McCain, Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama.
The first two are, in my opinion, completely disqualified from any legitimate claim to moral authority due to their criminal complicity with the unjustified war in Iraq.
If we elect either McCain or Clinton, we will be saying to the world that we approve of what has been done in our names. We will be condoning the murders of hundreds of thousands of human beings for the sole purpose of promoting our own national agenda. If that is an accurate reflection of the state of the American mind, I don't know if I can continue to consider myself an American.
Therefore, I have chosen to do the one thing in my power that might actually make a difference. Today I made a substantial contribution to Barack Obama's campaign. Obama was not my first choice among the Democratic candidates, but he is infinitely preferable to either John McCain or Hillary Clinton, and I feel it is my duty to put my money where my mouth is.
Unlike Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama's campaign does not accept contributions from lobbying firms. Hillary has raised millions from such firms, yet Obama is still outdistancing Clinton in total contributions. What does this mean? It means that the American people are lining up en masse behind Barack Obama. The tide is flowing in his direction, and now is the time to "put up or shut up". So, I ask everyone to consider joining me in making a donation to Barack Obama's campaign. Don't put it off, now is the time...

By Robyn Stubbs, February 7, 2008 at 15:41Hey Josh - how involved are you in the Obama campaign? I just went to his Facebook profile and he's got 400,000-something friends... you might want to check it out. If you're not on Facebook, he's got a MySpace page as well - these politicians have jumped right into the online social networking world!

By Heather Wallace, February 7, 2008 at 14:57Hey Josh - I am a Canadian, and so I don't really get a vote, but I'll take my say:
What you said about Hillary being complicit in the Iraq War is a key point, and one which I probably did not think enough about while I favored her, but what did Obama do to stand up against it?
I am advertising my ignorance of American politics a bit here. I need to be educated, and it sounds like you may be able to help.

By Josh Sidman, February 8, 2008 at 10:05Hey Heather,
Obama was not in the Senate at the time of the invasion -- he was in the Illinois state legislature. He spoke out and voted against the war from the beginning.
Besides, even if he had no record at all on the war, that would be infinitely preferable to Hillary's record. It is a key distinction to note that Hillary didn't just quietly go along with the Administration. She energetically and aggressively repeated the Administration's case for war, despite the fact that she had to know it didn't make sense. To my mind there is only one logical explanation for her actions. She knew she was going to want to run for President, and she realized that if she opposed the war and it ended up going well and being popular, she would have ruined her chances of winning the presidency. So, instead she made a choice to support a cause that she knew was wrong and that would cost many innocent lives so as to not put her own political career in jeopardy. That, in my opinion, is disgusting, immoral, and perhaps criminal -- definitely not the kind of person we need in the White House.

Josh
