Goodbye Giuliani

How wrong the conventional wisdom turned out to be!

For those of us, who remember the pre-9/11 Giuliani, we all can breathe a sigh of collective relief! The Mayor trampled civil liberties, stirred up tension between racial groups, enforced censorship, embraced the Iraq War and charged around New York City like it was his personal fiefdom. His police commissioner, business partner and buddy turned out to be a crook. The Mayor dumped his wife at a press conference, and then had the audacity to talk about family values.

As his campaign unfolded, he showed a striking ability to shed previously held convictions. Romney looks decisive compared to Giuliani. LGBT rights and choice went right out the window as he courted the social right wing. Pat Robertson became his new best friend and he promised Republican primary voters that he was no social liberal.

So, good things do happen in elections. The voters of Florida overwhelmingly rejected this man with few principles or values. They saw his naked blind ambition and his willingness to win at any cost.
