WWhat if Britney Spears isn’t what we perceive her to be? What if everything we know about her is all a lie? Truth is- Britney isn’t who we think she is. We’ve been told time and time again not to believe everything we read, but do we ever listen? I think not! The primary purpose of the media is to be a watchdog for society and a voice for those who are silenced. When did our watchdog become a pit-bull terrier? And who said Britney doesn’t have her own voice?
We’ve heard Britney tell us as best she can that what she does in her life is her prerogative and that if you disagree with her lifestyle then, “Why don’t you do something?”
She says that, “People can take everything away from you, but they can never take away you truth, but the question is - can you handle mine?”
Yes, there is a truth- believe it or not. How would you feel if everything you have ever worked for and dreamed of was taken away from you one day?
You find your true love but you are ripped apart because ‘others’ don’t want you two to be together. So you go ahead and have two beautiful kids anyway, and they’re also taken away from you. Are we so blinded by the media that we can’t even see that it is a powerful force that if not used for the betterment of humankind, the consequences can be devastating?
Britney is constantly provoked by the media into doing things and living her life to please her ‘audience’. If that’s not enough, why not just take away her career?

Re: Britney Spears Rushed To Hospital
By Michelle Kenneth, January 7, 2008 at 16:08I want all paps to take notice of something in that video. If it was a life or death situation and Brit's life was in danger, please note how all those paps were preventing the ambulance from leaving her home. If someone got ran over in the process, what were you doing in the way of an emergency vehicle? What part of that situation was ILLEGAL???
I'm not a big fan of paparazzi or paparazzi TV or paparazzi websites. Brit needs to be left alone. Paps just care about making money off of her. Leave her alone so she can get her life in order. She sincerely wants to get her life together, but the paps make it so hard for her. The media criticizes her for being human on a daily basis. So what if she buys her coffee from Starbucks...the majority of America buys their coffee from Starbucks...is that a reason to bash her? NO!
People need to understand that celebrities are human beings not gods. Just leave her alone. Let her work out her issues on her own and w/ her family. She needs a private life. Because she is famous does not give the rest of the world the right to know every single detail about her. Just as much as I don't have the right to know about what each and every human being does behind closed doors, the world has no right to know about my life or hers behind closed doors.
Oh, and Dr. Phil...it wasn't going to work b/c he sought to profit off of her situation, not help her. If he truly wanted to help her, he would have done a one-on-one PRIVATE consultation instead of trying to get her on TV to evaluate and humiliate her in front of the world. Dr. Phil's motives to help her were not in the right place. The right person for her is someone she trusts and will never sell her out to the paps. She already knows who those people are...it is just hard for her when the paps are right there and the media is ripping her apart. LET HER BE!
Even the doctors are coming out to say LEAVE HER ALONE so she can focus on finding her own calm in this storm she's drowning in.
Re: Britney Spears Rushed To Hospital
By Heather Wallace, January 7, 2008 at 16:18Well put Michelle. I am seriously thinking of organizing an International Britney's Blackout, where everyone boycotts all magazines/websites with Britney content and for the paparazzi to stay away from her for one week. I think it would be interesting to see what happened...Surely the world wouldn't stop, but why don't we try to find out.
Re: Britney Spears Rushed To Hospital
By luyen, January 6, 2008 at 23:28Has anybody ever watched TMZ? I find it scary that such shows have teams of people ravenously digging up the tiniest tid-bit on celebs, from the color of their last bowel movement, to what deodorant they're using...it's sickening, and considering what these actors go through just to have dinner, or get something at the local corner store, i wouldn't wish fame on anybody...not that kind of fame anyway.
I'd rather have Al Gore or Bill Clinton kind of fame, the 'change the world' kind of following... ;-)
Re: Britney Spears Rushed To Hospital
By Heather Wallace, January 5, 2008 at 09:58While I watched the spectacle of Britney being taken away on a stretcher, I kept thinking that with all those police officers swarming around, surely they could have gotten better control over the paparazzi...
The question is no longer what Britney should do, but what those who love her should do. They need to step in, and laws should be passed in order to regulate the paparazzi. It was such an invasion of privacy. She wasn't going to Starbucks...she was in crisis.
Let's keep in mind she is a mother being kept from her kids. I don't know the circumstances or what's in the best interest of the kids, but I do know that if a mother is having her kids taken away, it's bound to drive her around the bend.

Thank you for the great article. I'm tired of her being slammed all the time so this was a nice refresher.
Re: Britney Spears' Double Life
By Heather Wallace, November 4, 2007 at 20:32Thanks for weighing in Michelle. It's not said enough, but it's the truth. The media has no respect for Britney's private life, to the extent, that she literally has no private life left.
Orato.com has been in touch with Britney Spears for the past 6 months. She says she has lots to say, but she doesn't trust the media. She says she does want to give an interview, but she has to focus on her custody battle and parenting courses right now.
It's clear her life is chaotic, and most of that chaos is the flashbulbs and relentless stalking. Like Darren says, this harms her children, and people do not take any responsibility for that.
Britney's performance at the VMAs was atrocious. Britney herself has said so. She is a woman going through a painful and public divorce, estranged often from her family, and surrounded by many people who want a piece of her. I think she does need help right now - more help than she's willing to admit she needs, and different help than what she's being given.
Britney wrote to me the night of the VMAs after her performance and said she sucked because she was told in advance of Sarah Silverman's script...Sarah saying Britney was washed up, right before she was to be introduced, and pulling Britney's kids into the mudslinging. It was disgusting to see Sarah sink so low, and then seeing no one holding her accountable. Sure, Sarah bombed and got some disapproving finger wags, but the mass media focused on Britney's shaky performance.
I'm sorry those kids have been awarded to Kevin. From the sounds of it, he has his own substance abuse issues, but is able to slip under the radar because it's his ex-wife people are interested in.
I don't know Britney's relationship with her parents, but they clearly are not publicy protecting her in any way.
Britney's sister and I are also in touch, and I know it hurts her to watch her family be pulled through the dirt. It has strained relationships in the whole family.
In my opinion, it's time to cut Britney some slack, and stop the madness.
Britney is a performer - we can review her work on its merits. I think people agree that her latest album Blackout is going to be a hit in clubs. Britney makes people dance. That what she's paid for, and she's good at it. She must be, because people are still dancing to Britney. Is she capable of more artistic range? Perhaps an acoustic album? I'd love to find out...so let's not destroy her people.

Re: Britney Spears' Double Life
By Michelle Kenneth, November 4, 2007 at 17:09Thank you for sticking up for Britney.
That's something we discuss a lot...how the media treats her. We oftentimes compare what is happening to her to what happened to Princess Diana. One of the craziest things Princess Di's brother ever said was that he always believed the media would kill her, imagine that they were really the ones behind her death.
The media has been relentless with Britney, much worse with Britney then they ever were with Princess Diana. I hate picking up the paper for fear that I will not be able to handle what they are saying about her or finding that another private conversation of ours had been leaked to the press.
It's hard being friends with someone that everybody is trying to destroy, because you watch the slow progression downstream and it becomes too much to handle at times...and it's her life, not mine. People forget that she's a human being, not just a celebrity.
The media needs to have its own watchdog. There is a strong need for laws that will protect celebrities from all of these insane paparazzi. Britney has it about 50 times worse then Princess Diana ever did. Why can't the paparazzi be stopped? It's wrong what they're doing. Just watch any paparazzi video of Britney.
