I hope this is not too late for a Christmas idea exchange - here is mine, send me yours, ok? Let's try to make it different.

Christmas in Brazil is as much a season of purchasing as in many other parts of the world. Except there is no snow;it is summer here, and very hot.

Temperatures in some parts of the country get as high as 40 C... In Campinas it's between 26 to 32 C.

But when we talk about Christmas, the major nataline icons you see around are those of Rudolf, Snow men, Santa in red prepared for an utterly impossible snow storm. The houses have no chimney, I mean 98.9 per cent of them don’t. Still, if you ask little children how Santa is coming in the house on Christmas Eve, they will say through the non existing chimney... :)

All this points to the globalization of Christmas for the good of world economy. In China alone, millions and millions of Santa Clauses and other toys are produced and sold worldwide. Put in the basket music, greeting cards, food, toys, all awaiting in tray in a shop for you, consumer of the world. There is the market need to globalize.

Here in Campinas the decoration of the streets, squares and other public and privet places testify of what I am telling. The city administration for the second year made a nice thematic Christmas decoration, last year it was the “Christmas of the Nations” and this year a recycling one. All the character and nativity motives were made of recycled material in special pet bottles.

So maybe the salvation of Christmas lays on being creative and on focusing on what is really important, people. Does anyone remember who’s birthday is celebrated or should be? Whether you believe or not in Jesus and salvation of souls this whole story of Christmas starts there. It is a story of redemption, self given, passion, love. It should, if nothing, inspire us.
