In an update on the Madelaine McCann disappearance, her father Gerry McCann has been named by Portuguese police as arguidos, which means "formal suspects".

Gerry McCann was questioned at Portimao Police station, which is near the village of Praia da Luz. Madeleine went missing from her bed on the 3rd of May this year in the Algarve resort village while her parents apparently dined in a tapas bar nearby their apartment. Earlier on Friday, Kate McCann was named as a suspect in the investigation and questioned for five hours at the station.

Reports from Gerry McCann's sister Philomena state that Kate McCann had been offered a reduced sentence if she confessed and admitted what happened to Madeleine that fateful night.

There are no bail conditions and no formal charges against Gerry McCann at this stage.

Gerry McCann previously stated on his website that he is shocked by the allegations that his wife and he had anything to do with the disappearance of his daughter and "They will fight this all the way".
