It's official. Beginning today and for a full year I will be known as "Free-A-Store-Us-Rex." That's my new name. My official and totally formal new name for any effect. At 7:28 am (ET) the company Freebeestore.com has won the auction with a final bid of $37,000.01. So until next Groundhog Day I won't answer to anything else.
But more importantly than my new name is the fact that an early spring is on its way. The prognosticator of prognosticators, Groundhog Punxetawntey Phil, based in Pennsylvania, emerged from his stump this morning and told me himself.
There were many reasons why I decided to do this. I recently completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The school, people and experiences were all great, and well worth the investment. However, the education investment left me sitting in the red financially. I don't really like working your typical office jobs; instead I want to work for myself wherever possible and be an entrepreneur. So I realized I needed to start a profitable project as soon as possible. That's how I ended up with a Web site where I auctioned my legal name.

I find this somewhat
By luyen, February 3, 2007 at 18:44I find this somewhat amusing, and sad at the same time. Amusing that it is so far out, and people are engaged by this odd behavior. Sad because, to me anyway, there doesn't seem to be anything that is really sacred, or meaningful.
Changing your name just for kicks, or because you know it's just a label of your person is one thing, but doing it for money (or half-intentionally), shows a certain lack of self-respect.
I don't say this in a demeaning way, but like i said, it's a bit sad. We all have such potential to become examples of goodness, and compassion for others - but instead we come up with ways to denigrate ourselves, and under-value our human potential. It's really too bad.
