Halloween has come and gone. Still holding over from that fateful night is Saw V, the latest in the highly successful gore-fests from Maple Films now gnawing away at people’s senses

Squeamish people need to heed that old warning that you reap what you sow. Here the blood gushes freely as a demented madman continues his killing ways.

So far the first four Saw movies have been unstoppable hits at the box office.Made on a shoe string budget the early films caught on like wild-fire, particularly the first that introduced Jigsaw, a killer in the mould of Jason or Freddie.Only this maniac uses his intellect to stalk his victims.

Flashbacks to the fourth Saw movie fill in some of the gaps as Jigsaw is left for dead.Too bad for the innocent that his legend continues as more killings unfold in an elaborate house of horrors. Police officials and the F.B.I. again appear to be clueless in this 92 minute ode to violence as once again elaborate death traps are set in motion with the human guinea pigs fighting for their lives.

Credit must be given to the writers for the unbelievably imaginative (and grotesque) ways they again come up with to harm people. Whether it's a head in glass or a pendulum swinging Saw V will definitely prove popular to the blood and guts crowd.Again the fuel for this movie and the motivation for Jigsaw’s wicked ways are steeped in psychology as John, Jigsaw’s true life form, clearly has an axe to grind and wages a mind war with those he's trapped who invariably have done something wrong in their lives.Let the retribution begin!

Plot-wise the story focuses on a few police officials and authority types somehow caught up in Jigsaw’s maniacal plans. Going through the motions as supposed good guys are Costas Mandylor (Beowulf) as Officer Mark Hoffman and Scott Patterson (Saw IV) as agent Strahm, two men seemingly in way over their heads.
