The New Show
It’s about consumer choices and how they’re related to the environment. The idea is that humans are having a huge effect on the world’s environment and the world’s climate, but it’s largely by accident.
People didn’t intend to drive penguins out of business and destroy their eco-system. People didn’t intend to alter the genes of fish off the coast of North America. But they did. So by making consumer choices you can reverse a lot of this.
We did one show where we shot around my house quite a bit. The reason I was hired to be host of this show is because I believe in all this stuff.
On Greening His House (And Crushing Neighbour Ed Begley, Jr.)
I have solar hot water. And why every house in North America doesn’t have solar hot water is a little bit of a mystery. People in future generations will just go: “What the? What were you people doing? The sun is hitting your house!”
Apparently in the 1930s, in places like Florida and Cuba, everybody had solar hot water systems. But then as oil got so cheap, people abandoned them.
Any second now, Steve the Crawl Space Man should be showing up. That’s not his real last name. We’re sealing the crawl space.
Here in California, where we have earthquakes, very few houses have basements. Underneath the floor is just open space. Heat can pass through the floor, going both ways, whether you’re trying to heat the house or cool the house.
So now I’m insulating underneath the house. Because why? Because Begley did, ok? We’ve gotta crush Begley. I’m behind on the crawl space, but I will be caught up with him by the end of the day Thursday.
Overall, I’m ahead. I’m not ahead by a couple of lengths, I’m ahead by a nose.
