Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe

"With fame you can read about yourself, somebody else's ideas about you, but what's important is how you feel about yourself, for survival." - Marilyn Monroe, born June 1, 1926.

Ultimately Marilyn did not survive, though it's not known if how she felt about herself was behind her untimely death on August 5, 1962 at the age of 36. Her death was first classified as a probable suicide from acute barbiturate poisoning, though there are many conspiracy theories linking her passing to her alleged affairs with Robert and John F. Kennedy. Others claim it was simply an accident, with Marilyn falling victim to overprescribed pills and a penchant for champagne. It is not her death that matters now, but the light she left behind. Marilyn would be 82 this week.

"When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better than them." - Marilyn Monroe

One of my first "entertainment gigs" was as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator/telegramist....

I read so much about her, and watched all her movies to get her down but it wasn't until I read this quote that I actually "got it".... this is what I remember...

- " Acting isn't something you do. Instead of doing it, it occurs. If you're going to start with logic, you might as well give up. You can have conscious preparation, but you have unconscious results".

I heard an old codger once who shared a story about meeting Marilyn when she was shooting a movie in Canada. He said that came into a workman's shed and just shot the sh*t with guys in a very genuine and confident way, joking and laughing as if she was one of the gang. You could hear the smile in his voice, feel the fire in his soul still, as he recounted this sweet memory of the "most beautiful, sexy woman he had ever met."

She had that impression on millions.
