The Raconteurs, made up of Jack White (who we may recognize from a little band called The White Stripes), Brendan Benson, Patrick Keeler, and Jack "LJ" Lawrence, debuted in 2006 with the release of the album
Broken Boy Soldiers, which was a smashing success. Mojo Magazine declared it Album of the Year, and Rolling Stone said the band skyrocketed above the astronomical expectations of folks who knew the respective band members from their already-successful pre-Raconteurs careers.
The band recently released its second album,
Consolers of the Lonely, which cleverly received no promotion and was not confirmed to exist until a week before its March 25th debut.
I saw The Raconteurs last night. The band took the stage, with Jack White's sparkly boned back to the audience. He turned around and my boyfriend said, "He's a worrier. You can see it in his bloodshot eyes that he doesn't sleep much." I think many of the greatest artists burn their candle at both ends, consoling themselves with what they leave behind.
