Confessions Of A Porn Addict

Spencer Rice , Canada

When he's not busy competing to see who can stay naked the longest or who can drink the most beer for his show 'Kenny vs Spenny', Spencer Rice spends his time immersed in porno. That's because he's been busy making his new film, 'Confessions Of A Porn Addict.'

My first experience with porn is exactly what’s in the movie - a book. I was visiting my grandparents and there was a guy living across the street who was a year or two older than me who gave me a dirty book. Then it went to magazines, then of course to videos, VHS tapes, then now of course DVDs.

It would be disingenuous of me to say the film is a complete fiction and I’ve never had anything to do with pornography. I’m certainly not an addict or doing it to the point that it would destroy my life like the character in the movie does, but I just think it’s a funny thing to put a romantic comedy in the world of porn. I liked that we sort of have this dysfunctional sweet love story set in the most unromantic of backdrops, which is of course hardcore pornography.

At the very beginning the idea was based on a film that probably never got released. The first couple of scenes were just this guy sitting at the table with his family, and he excuses himself from the table and goes to the bathroom. So he gets into the washroom and jumps on the phone and it turns out he’s hiding an unbelievable gambling addiction from them. I thought, ‘This is a great premise for a movie’.

I wanted to do a film about porn addiction because I think it is somewhat an issue in our culture, although this is not a polemic film in any way, shape, or form. But it is something people can relate to and have feelings about.

The idea was to put it in a romantic comedy and mock documentary context, which is just bizarre.

I was lucky enough to see the film in advance, and it was very cool. As a fan of Kenny vs Spenny, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Needless to say, if you enjoy the humor in that show, you'll definitely get a kick out of 'Confessions'.

By the way, Spenny isn't kidding when he says it's one of the greatest endings of all time. You'll be laughing while you run to the bathroom. Totally memorable.
