Duane "Dog" Chapman is the owner of Da Kine Bail Bonds in Honolulu and at 6,000+ fugitive captures, he is a living, though controversial legend. Before his TV show was abruptly taken off the air Dog The Bounty Hunter went number one on A&E, his book You Can Run But You Can't Hide went #1 on the hard cover non-fiction list...Not bad for a guy who was once incarcerated for first degree murder and addicted to hard drugs. Life brings struggle, Dog brings the law:
Going #1
We just finished a huge book tour and we're back in Honolulu now. It was great - We broke attendance records in about 11 different cities. Mrs. Clinton beat me in one by a hundred, so we went to work and won from then on. We loved it.
Our show Dog The Bounty Hunter is #1 on A&E-the book You Can Run But You Can't Hide has gone #1. That's a blessing. Thank God.
Americans are intrigued because bounty hunting is one of the oldest laws on the books, and what we do is real life. It's unplanned, unscripted and happens everyday. Some game shows call themselves reality television...they're not. We are true reality, shot exactly the way the bounty goes down.
People watching our show know anything could happen at any time. People like it for the excitement. People want to know what a criminal looks like. Cops like it because they learn new tricks. We reach just about every demographic.
As a kid, I identified with vigilante legends because that's what I was meant to be. It was my mission. Television was probably also an influence in my life, although my parents were Christian, so back in those days we barely watched television.

By Heather Wallace, July 21, 2008 at 13:31So, Dog is back on television, but so far I haven't heard much about his return or had a chance to catch the show. I'm hoping some fans that commented on this story could help to bring me up to speed.

By ashley, July 22, 2008 at 12:35Heather,
I taped the season premiere. It might have been the best episode to date.
Some random things that I noticed is that Beth lost weight, and got her eyebrows pierced.
Tim apparently isn't involved in the show anymore, but Baby Lisa has a bigger presence.
The guy that they were chasing carries a sawed-off shot gun and the last 20 minutes where unbelievably intense.

Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By doc76013, January 20, 2008 at 12:54When I saw this link on the A&E website I gave a tremendous amount of thought as to what I wanted to say, and how I wanted to let you have it. Mr Chapman to me you are the worst con man since Jim and Tammy Baker praying one minute and cursing like a drunken sailor the next on no less PRIME TIME, when children watch and parents allow it. You in my opinion are a fake and a coward that with one breath says that your "clients" should call the court and be sure to show, however you sir RAN from Mexico like a scarred little rabbit. On the advice of an attorney and against a JUDGES orders. Then you do the same thing in Hawaii. You like the con man you are come on a television program to entice the audience show compassion and give advice to those who you RE CAPTURE after your bail bonds have made the first of the money by bail then re capture and re bail them out again making another percentage.
Moving on, your ex wife Lyssa has confirmed your racism and your loathe of other cultures, rather than making apologies on African American radio or television you sir go to the white republican Shawn Hannity and Larry King, what a slap in the African Americans face. Why has the NAACP not come out and been on your favor ? Why is it that you have never until your recent coming out as the racist in my opinion you are ever been seen with a photo op of African Americans? I believe sir you are sorry for being caught, not for the use of a word over and over that brings to mind slavery and contempt for other cultures.
Now your trying once again to put on a front by BUYING your way back, you sir in my opinion need to have many years to think and dwell over what damage your words caused. You need to make sure that your heart and soul are in the right place for you to meet your maker when that occurs, you can fool humans they are easy, however you cannot fool your maker.
Why is it that TIm is not in a motel ? Why is it that you sir have not come forward to assist what you call your Brother? Why is it that you have not allowed this man into your own home? Mr. Chapman again you display your true character in allowing a man to sleep basically on the street rather than make sure he has a roof over his head. I am glad I do not have a fair weather friend like you. In my opinion sir you are nothing more than a liar, a thief a racist and bail jumper that is showing your true self. I do not blame Tucker for taping your tirade for you see I believe that your true self shows when your in a private setting and you think no one is listening.
History knows who you are, and what you represent, and so do you. I am doing all that I can to KEEP you off the air, I call and write and email every person I can. I am glad that without the con you represent the network is above the top ten in cable. Yum foods made a good profit from its sales in the final two quarters of 2007. I can only hope that your fifteen minutes are over and that because of your actions and words you lose everything and have to start over. You sir in my opinion are below nothing.
Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By tdsracer, December 19, 2007 at 17:23I think you are a Good Dog! We need more proactive people like you in this world. It is a shame that his son thought that secretly taping his father and selling it to the media was the right thing to do...I also was very glad to hear Dog tell Larry King that he forgives his son these actions. Dog is truly a humanitarian working to improve society.

Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By rainflowermoon, November 18, 2007 at 18:04Dog is a godsend to those who need a champion in life. For those that got held back from the starting line and weren't given the chances others were. I am a 33-year old woman with Cerebral Palsy, and one of the thousands of fans who see him as their voice and champion of justice. "Where mercy is shown, mercy will be given."
I deal with a lot on a daily basis. But I won't quit. I carry the Chapmans in my heart, and if I could, I'd meet them and wrap my arms around them. Whenever I watch the show, I see myself right there with him, catching criminals, especially those who beat on a woman. I was beaten and hurt many years ago, but I am still here.
I've returned to college and hopefully one day will have a Masters in Psychology (working on my 4-year degree at the moment) so that I can turn my own struggles into a blessing for others as Dog has done.
I support them 100%, and always will. Please, If they read this, Aloha and love from Liverpool, New York.

Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By suzie, November 14, 2007 at 22:31I am so mad that A&E won't air you on there channel anymore, your show was the best one on the air. They can put the Soprano's on there and change word's and bleep them out. I realize that your son taped your personal conversation and used it against you just like when he tried to say you were cheating on Beth, but the intire population that watch's your show never held any of this against you then and won't now, So you jacked up out of anger but who doesn't. rock On Dog and the Posse. WE want Dog Back, he teaches our kid's to take bad guy's and girl's off the street's especially the drugie's., an he tell's them what they need to know about changing there life's and getting help. This is one of the few show's on the T.V. air waves of all channel's that is OK for children to watch and is true realtity. So please reconsider that Dog and the bounty hunter's come back on the air soon. I wish you Dog and Beth the best of luck and hope you have happy holiday's and a wonerful new year. Tucker need's to grow up. And learn from his dad, all of our paren't who grew up in the 60's-70's were all alike really.
Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By Bethw, November 14, 2007 at 22:28IT WAS WRONG FOR SOMEONE TO TAPE YOUR PERSONAL PHONE CONVERSATION AND TURN IT OVER TO THE MEDIA. YOU HAVE THE BEST SHOW ON A&E, ALL THE OTHER SHOWS ON THERE ARE STUPID. SO I HOPE THEY RESOLVE THE MATTER SOON SO WE CAN START WATCHING YOUR SHOW AGAIN. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND HOPE TO SEE YOUR SHOW AGAIN SOON. WE WANT DOG BACK BECAUSE IT SHOWS ARE CHILDREN THAT THERE IS A GOOD PERSON OUT THERE TO TAKE THE BAG GUYS AND GIRLS OFF THE STREET.
BRING DOG AND THE POSSE BACK SOON!!!!!

I am a member of the chorus that is resounding:

Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By peacemakerdove, November 9, 2007 at 09:07I just want to say that too many people who have done many good things are being hung out to dry in this Country for minor things. It is a word....he didn't punch someone in the face....remember the old "sticks and stones" saying? Yes people need to be more careful with negative words but why is it that whole careers are being destroyed because of one word or a statement? Yes it should be brought to their attention, yes they shouldn't do it again, yes an apology is in order, if they can do something positive to turn it around that is fine too....but to ruin someone's career. This is so awful with so many things going wrong in the world. By pulling the show off the air it doesn't just hurt Dog it hurts his family as well and the people behind the scenes that help make the program like the camera person or the one who edits the film, their lives have been affected and they didn't say a bad word. I think the culprit here is the Enquirer for pushing money in peoples faces that are in weak places in their lives. I wouldn't buy that paper if it was the last thing left to read on this earth. Tucker your Father will and has forgiven you, but learn from this mistake you made, you only get one Father, don't treat him that way even if you don't agree with him or are mad at him for the time being. As you can see it has hurt more than just him.....stand beside your family....or at least don't do like you did. Beth, I know this is hard on you now, but if Dog ever needed you more it is now. He needs your comfort no matter how you feel about things. Together you will stand strong against the strong winds ahead. Things will work out.....just give it time.....you are so lucky to have so many loving family members....stick together. I have been wanting to purchase your book Dog and will do so today to show support to what is going on. Don't let this stop you from getting the criminals off the streets, the compassion you show them once apprehended, and the other numerous good things your family does. I hope A&E reconsiders and puts the show back on but if it doesn't know that many enjoyed the program and learned from it in many ways. I read these writings and so many express how you helped them turn their life around just by viewing the program, you give others hope, children find a hero in a world where they find few on the TV screen, I myself looked forward to being in my own way part of your family each week. Dog you've done many good works....don't let this knock you down.....we all make mistakes.....we are all human.....May The Great Spirit provide you and your family the love and guidance to walk these days ahead. Thank you for your past accomplishments in making our world a little safer. Sheryl Mourning Dove
Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By snjhm@msn.com, November 9, 2007 at 00:22I personally think that it should be up to the person with the remote as to whether watch Dog or not. In my home his show will always be welcome. I love the show not only for the intertainment, but another reason as well. I am a 33 year old female, and up until I was 26 years old, I stayed in and out of jail, starting with youth centers at the age of 14 and ending in prison. Took me along time to realize I was better than that. I only wish that someone had took the time to tell me that I could be a better person. (Which I do know now) But it might have saved me alot heartache. I love to see the way that Dog and his family do their best to try to make a difference in others lives. They are not in it for the fame or the money, but what they do and say if heart felt. If A&E doesnt bring Dog back I will be very disappointed, but I just pray that Dog does not give the fight against war and drugs, and never gives up believing that there is good in everyone. The show has been very inspirational to my family at times......Never give up Dog

By ME4CAM, November 8, 2007 at 13:32HEY DOG,
IT'S TIME WE MAKE A STAND FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH !!! THIS HAS ALL GOTTEN WAY OUT OF HAND AND IT NEEDS TO STOP RIGHT HERE. WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND IS, WHITE PEOPLE ARE NOW THE MINORITY !! WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE YEARS TO COME WHEN WE HEAR SOME BLACK PERSON CALL US A CRACKER? CAN WE START SUEING PEOPLE ALSO? BLACK PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BEING USING THE "N" WORD IF IT AFFENDS THEM SO MUCH ! WHAT A DOUBLE STANDARD !! I BET MOST OF THEM STAND BACK AND LAUGH AT US RIGHT NOW THINKING, "WOW, LOOK AT THAT, ANOTHER WHITE PERSON IN THE NEWS BEING JUDGED FOR USING A WORD WE USE EVERYDAY." WHAT A WONDERFUL COUNTRY WE LIVE IN HUH??
I WILL NOT WATCH A&E OR EAT AT ANY OF THE FAST FOOD PLACES THAT HAVE DECIDED TO PULL THE PLUG ON YOUR SHOW !!
PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHIN UP AND FIGHT THIS !!

By BIGRED, November 7, 2007 at 23:13DOG I HOPE YOU READ THIS COMMENT. I WATCHED YOU LAST NIGHT ON HANNITY AND IT WAS SO HARD FOR ME TO KEEP WATCHING. YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON, YOU HAVE A WAY OF INSPIRING PEOPLE AND CHANGING THEIR LIVES AND YOU KNOW THIS. AND BEHIND EVERY STRONG MAN IS AN EVEN STRONGER WOMAN. BETH AND YOUR CREW SHOW HOW FAMILY SHOULD BE. YES, YOU SAID THE N WORD. WELL YOU HAVE ALSO SAVED PEOPLES LIVES AND INSPIRED PEOPLE TO MAKE BETTER CHOICES. DO THESE JUDGEMENTAL PEOPLE NOT WATCH THE PART WHEN YOUR IN THE TRUCK TALKING TO THESE ICED OUT PEOPLE AND THEY ARE ACTUALLY LISTENING TO YOU. HAVE THEY ACTUALLY DEALT WITH ANYTHING THAT OCCURS IN THEIR NEIBORHOODS. NO THEY JUST POINT THE FINGER WHEN ALL THE GOOD PEOPLE ARE OUT HELPING EVERYONE ELSE. THEY ARE PROBABLY THE SAME ONES WHO WERE POINTING FINGERS WHEN THE TOWERS WERE FALLING WHILE THE GOOD PEOPLE WERE PICKING UP THE PIECES AND HOLDING OUR FAMILIES TOGETHER. YOU ARE A GOOD MAN AND YOU HAVE A BIG GROUP OF PEOPLE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THAT ARE ROOTING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. BIGRED....XOXO
AND WE WANT UR SHOW BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By Tina77, November 7, 2007 at 20:56Ya big deal, so DOG said the"N" word. That doesnt make him a bad person. He made a mistake, who doesn't. Dog and his crew are wonderful people who are trying to help people. Why cant A&E see that, why because they are to narrow minded. A&E to me means ANAL & EMPTY HEADED. If they are going to punish a man for making a mistake in a PRIVATE CONVERSATION, Then why don't they take the other shows off as well. You hear the "N" word on T.V all the time and you don't see anyone else getting in trouble for it. It's sickening. DOG, BETH, LELAND, TIM, DUANE LEE, BABY LYSSA, AND THE REST OF THE POSSE, I LOVE YOU GUYS, I WISH THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL. I'M SORRY THAT GOOD, KIND HEARTED PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELVES CANT LIVE A NORMAL LIFE WITHOUT BEING TORMENTED BY JEALOUS PEOPLE. IF IT WEREN'T FOR U GUYS, I DON'T KNOW WHERE I WOULD BE. I MYSELF USED ICE FOR 3 YEARS. SINCE THE DAY I SAW YOUR SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HEARD WHAT YOU SAID SAID TO THE GUY, I CLEANED MYSELF UP. I HAVE BEEN CLEAN FOR 29 MONTHS NOW AND I THANK YOU FOR IT. YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO MANY. YES YOU HAVE LIVED A HARD LIFE BUT YOU CHANGED IT AROUND. CONTINUE TO DO WHAT YOU DO BEST BRA. KEEP FIGHTING AND WE YOUR FANS WILL STAY BY YOUR SIDE AND FIGHT RIGHT ALONG WITH YOU. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL. 100% GENUINE FORTIFIED BRA. IN DOG WE TRUST, IN DOG I TRUST, LOVE LIVE THE DOG.

If frickin rappers can use that 'n' word repeatedly, knowing alot of black people don't like it...Then how are people gonna stop saying it?? Dog is not racist. Hes a damn hero. I cannot beleive that hes getting so much Shit for this.It was a private phone convo. Dog, if you read this, I love you and your family. I'm so sorry this has happened but i'm behind you 110%! Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By dp, November 2, 2007 at 09:41I think Dog is a wonderful person. So he made one little mistake by using the n word. Get over it. Think back to his show when he said "white trash" all the time. Nobody made a big deal over that! I think he's a good guy and we need to give him another chance! LONG LIVE THE DOG!!
Re: Dog The Bounty Hunter: Struggle In Paradise
By D Baez, November 2, 2007 at 07:00So Dog screws up just like the rest of us. Let him learn from it and move on. Ruin his career? No, the only careers that should be ruined are the criminal careers of those he brings in.

By Robyn Williams, October 28, 2007 at 11:40I'm so glad I found this story! When I first saw Dog The Bounty Hunter, I thought it was a little cheesy, but then I was hooked. Dog really is a living legend.
